Mother's Day (2018)

“Motherhood: All love begins and ends there.” – Robert Browning

“God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers.” – Rudyard Kipling.

A mother is everyone’s best friend because she takes care of everything we need. So, to say her thanks and give her respect, a day of the year has been dedicated to the mother and celebrated as Mother’s day every year. In India mother’s day is celebrated every year on 2nd Sunday of the May month. This year it will be celebrated on 13th May.

As part of many activities lined up to mark this day, students of class 3,4 and 5 (PRIMUS) wrote loving messages to show how much they love their mothers and value of a mother in their lives.

My Mother (Shameka Martin)

I love so much my mother,
She's always in my heart.
Even though we argue,
We'll never be apart.

She can tell when I have problems.
She knows when I am down.
She's always there to cheer me up,
and take away my frowns.

At times when I get mad at her
it's hard to stay that way.
Only because she makes me laugh
every passing day.

I love my mother with all my heart,
but this she does not know.
Sometimes I want to tell her,
but I'm afraid to let it show.

Rabindra Nath Tagore

Today marks the 157th birth anniversary of India’s first Nobel Award winner Rabindranath Tagore.
As the nation remembers ‘Gurudev’, here are some little-known facts about him:
1) The man who composed National Anthems for 3 nations- From India’s ‘Jan Gan Man’, to Bangladesh’s ‘Amar Sona Banlga’, Sri Lanka’s national anthem is also based on Tagore’s poem.
2) The man who conferred title of ‘Mahatma’ to Father of Nation
3) The beautiful friendship with Albert EinsteinTagore and Einstein met four times between 1931 and 1931. Not only did they revere each other, but they also shared common interest of music and curiosity for general things.
4) The bard who was music icon- Gurudev wrote more than 2,000 songs, which are now known as ‘Rabindrasangit’.
5) World traveller at heartTagore travelled to over 30 countries on five continents in a little over five decades in the late 19th century and the early 20th century.
6) When Tagore returned his Knighthood in protest against Jallianwala Bagh massacre- On May 31st, 1919, a month after Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Tagore renounced his 1915 knighthood.

Interesting Facts about English Language

2)A pangram sentence is one that contains every letter in the language.

For example, the sentence “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” is a pangram.

3) Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (*breath*) is NOT the longest word in English.

The longest word is Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis , a type of lung disease caused by inhaling ash and dust.

There are some words that appeared in the dictionary because of printing errors. The nonexistent word “dord” appeared in the dictionary for eight years in the mid-20th century. It became known as a “ghost word.”

6) A new word is added to the dictionary every two hours.

7) There’s a name for words that we repeat often- Crutch Words

Words we always use even though they add no meaning or value to a sentence are called crutch words. For example, in the sentence “Then I was like, OMG, then like, he went there, and like…” it is pretty obvious that “like” is the crutch word. “Actually,” “honestly,” and “basically” are also commonly used as crutch word

8) Swims will be swims even when turned upside down.

Such words are called ambigrams.

9) English is the language of the air.

The word “girl” was not initially used to refer to a specific gender. It used to mean “child” or “young person” regardless of the gender.
