Students of class 3, 4 and 5 (PRIMUS) visited National Philatelic Museum on 27.12.17, Wednesday.
The National Philatelic Museum at Dak Bhawan, New Delhi, India, is operated by the Department of Post.
The Museum had number of frames in which exhibits of Post Independence era stamps were displayed. The frames were arranged beautifully in different sections like section for Sheetlets, section for different themes, Section for Stamps from different countries.
The visit started with an interesting and informative Audio Visual show showcasing the many different stamps which had been issued in India by the Post and Telegraph Department. These stamps could be classified under various categories such as famous events in history, famous people from India and the world, sports, art and nature.The show was followed by a walking tour around the museum where the students were introduced to different series of stamps issued every five years, since 1947.Students saw rarest of rare first stamp issued by Sindh Dak in 1854 & from the old princely world!
Children had fun in participating in two activities organised by the museum, namely, Drawing Competition-My Stamp on the theme winter and writing New Year wishes on a post card. They were excited to actually post their cards in a letter box.
Many students had started the day thinking that the trip to a museum of philately would hold no interest for them; they came back buzzing with excitement after a trip that turned out to be a fun trip with a great deal of learning! In this age of emails where posted letters are fast becoming out dated they learnt the beauty of Philately and its significance !

Sana Rikhi- 3rd prize.
